Summer savings: gourmet food is on offer for everyday prices during Coolinary New Orleans

Preview: Coolinary New Orleans

The Summer Slump in New Orleans is real, and August is, as ever, the hardest month for our local hospitality industry. Summer festivals such as Satchmo and the like bring a modicum of tourism into town, but it’s mainly locals keeping things afloat. That said, it’s the perfect time to explore your own city if you’re here. Hotels often have ridiculously cheap rates if you’re looking for a stay somewhere swanky and restaurants, too, promote some great deals.

The month of August sees ‘Coolinary New Orleans’ start up, with the city’s finest dining establishments offering curated prix-fixe menus at very attractive prices. Most places are offering two-course lunches for $25 or less, and three-course dinners and brunches for $45 or less.

Here are some highlights, although you can find the full schedule here!

Arnaud’s: Grab a French 75, see their secret Mardi Gras Museum and settle in for dinner at a great old restaurant.

Brown Butter: Comfort food aplenty includes a special BBQ Catfish on their dinner menu.

Commander’s Palace: All the classics, including turtle soup and gumbo.

Compere Lapin: Nina Compton’s flagship at the Old 77 Hotel.

Costera: Lots of love for this Spanish restaurant, which has seafood paella on offer.

Couvant: One of the few authentically French places in town, worth a look.

Domenica: Upping the stakes with discounted wine pairings.

GW Fins: One of the city’s most innovative fish restaurants offers lobster and shrimp.

Jewel of the South: Chris Hannah’s cocktails and a quirky menu.

Justine: One of the Quarter’s most interesting dining rooms and solid food.

Palm & Pine: A great, casual spot with an inventive Latin/South American menu.

Restaurant R’Evolution: One of the swankiest spots in town has their boudin-stuffed quail on the menu.

Shaya: Alon Shay’s flagship Israeli eatery is always great, especially at this price.

There are over 80 places offering the Coolinary deal, though, so pick a few spots and work your way through those bargains!
