How much is....a hotel on Mardi Gras Day?
Access to a private bathroom and a place to decompress for a while are no small luxuries on Mardi Gras Day. One way to do this is to book a hotel downtown that you can use as a base - the hotels usually strictly restrict access to the property for guests on Mardi Gras day, and so you can be sure of some respite if you need a little down time. But how much will that privilege cost you? We took a snapshot look at the prices via priceline.com on Thursday 9th Feb, looking at staying two nights, Monday 21st (Lundi Gras) and Tuesday 22nd February (Mardi Gras), Here’s what’s on offer:
$184 per night
The Higgins Hotel New Orleans, Curio Collection By Hilton
The cheapest downtown hotel we found, and it’s a 4-star in the CBD. Second World War-themed, and a way to escape the field of battle if you’ve been dealing with drunken Chads for too long and need a breather.
$205 per night
Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown
Another 4-star Hilton, and a relatively new addition to the CBD’s hotel portfolio. Has an excellent fusion restaurant and the location is hard to beat.
$237 per night
Hotel Indigo New Orleans Garden District
The closest Garden District Hotel to the CBD and French Quarter, this boutique property is just a quick hop across Caliope.
$249 per night
Le Meridien
One of the cheaper hotels on offer that has a pool, and you’re guaranteed to have it just for guests of the hotel. The former W New Orleans, this place has a lot going for it.
$255 per night
Le Pavillon New Orleans
Stay in one of the city’s oldest continuously-running hotels (as old as The Roosevelt or Monteleone). Out of the way of the liveliest spots, back on Poydras, which might be a plus for some people.
$269 per night
Troubadour Hotel New Orleans Tapestry Collection by Hilton
We’re big fans of this place, with its cute rooftop bar and thoughtfully-designed retro rooms. No pool, but great views.
$279 per night
The Pontchartrain Hotel
It’s a little further uptown on St Charles Avenue, but the style quotient is high, the restaurants are great, and this isn’t that much more expensive that it is on regular nights.
$384
Virgin Hotels New Orleans
One of the CBD's funnest hotels is bound to be a great place to hang out. A rooftop pool, great dining and cocktail menus, and a plum location to boot. READ OUR REVIEW
$394 per night
Four Seasons New Orleans
Again, close to regular-season prices, and this is one of the city’s most luxurious spots. Classic rooms, high levels of service, and a prestigious brand.
$429 per night
W New Orleans - French Quarter
You’ll be the envy of your friends with a room right in the middle of the action, but with a courtyard pool that feels like a literal oasis. Trendy, and a little pricey, but worth it if you feel like splashing out.
$522 per night
Maison de la Luz
Probably the swankiest hotel in town. Guests get access to their amazing bar, Marilou, and not only that, they get to go into their secret ‘bar within a bar’. It’s a lot, but if Mardi Gras coincides with a special occasion, or you messed up Valentine’s Day, then this is the one. READ OUR REVIEW
