9th-12th
La Cage aux Folles
Lyric Theatre at Tulane
Here, the irony is that the “Razzle Dazzle” refers to bugle beads, sequins, and baubles, which are not agents of disguise, but the trappings of audacious authenticity. At the heart of the story is the very familiar tension between audacious authenticity and comfortable conformity. Boasting one of the most impactful Act I closers in musical theatre history, come and prepare to be transfixed by the glint of rhinestones, and gutted by the rawness of a self-love that will not be obscured. 9th-19th

A Little Night Music
Lyric Theatre at Tulane
This season’s line-up ends with the beauty, genius, and perfection of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, which premiered in 1973. Pivotal to the story is the cathartic masterpiece, “Send in the Clowns,” providing a razzling-dazzling, spectacularly farcical circus as metaphor for complicated and ill-fated relationships. There is not a misplaced note or syllable in this flawless score, making it unsurprising that this musical has been produced by opera companies, as well. More info
31st-August 9th

Tony Award-winning musical about Monty Navarro, a penniless clerk in 1900s London. After his mother's death, Monty discovers he is a distant heir to a wealthy earldom. To claim the title, he methodically eliminates the eight relatives ahead of him. More info
