something cloudy, something clear, new orleans
Something Cloudy, Something Clear: The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company production is part of the theatrical programming in the city this month

New Orleans on stage: Selected theater and stage shows, September 2026

10th-27th
Something Cloudy, Something Clear by Tennessee Williams
Lower Depths Theatre (Loyola University)
On the misty shores of Provincetown, a playwright haunted by his past revisits the brief, electrifying summer he shared with a beautiful young dancer who changed his life—and his art—forever. This is Tennessee Williams laid bare: an autobiographical meditation on desire, heartbreak, and the price of creation itself.

11th
CAIN

Marigny Opera House
A reimagined ballet-opera. The music is a resurrection of a 1707 oratorio by Alessandro Scarlatti. This virtually unknown baroque gem will take on new life as a fully staged ballet-opera, bringing together some of New Orleans’ finest dancers, designers, musicians, singers, and storytellers.

11th-20th
Come From Away

Jefferson Performing Arts Center
Based on the true story of the time when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland, played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover, when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to Gander’s airstrip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.

13th
Clytemnestra Blue
Le Petite Theatre
Greek tragedy of 5th-century Athens and the modern blues music of 1920s New Orleans come together in an explosive, moving, and timeless exploration of what it means to hurt like a human. An all-female cast of powerful voices featuring talented faculty, student, and community artists confront the consequences of violence and its survival in a world moving from retribution towards compassion.

15th
The Moth: Grandslam Championship

Le Petite Theatre
Experience fierce, hilarious, and heartbreaking stories from The Moth.

17th
LPO: Opening Night: Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2
Orpheum Theatre
The LPO returns to open their new season with Anna Clyne’s Masquerade. The evening continues with the lush, sweeping romanticism of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. They conclude this grand debut with the monumental power of Brahms’s Symphony No. 4.

Irene Collective: LAUREL CANYON 1979 [Staged Reading]
New Marigny Theatre
A group of Laurel Canyon residents who, long past the neighborhood’s heyday, live with mother-hippie Marigold and cling to a time gone by. When a new neighbor moves in, Marigold and her friends must come to terms with the world changing around them.

18th-19th
Batture Music Festival
New Marigny Theatre
An annual new music festival showcasing the diverse array of composers and performers based in Louisiana. The festival includes concerts, workshops, and open rehearsals free and open to the public in venues throughout the city of New Orleans.

22nd-27th

New Marigny Theatre
Offenbach’s La vie Parisienne Overture and a world-class new work by a local Louisiana composer. The French celebration continues with Milhaud’s Le boeuf sur le toit and Ibert’s Suite Symphonique: Paris. They conclude with Mozart’s Symphony No. 31, a majestic tribute to the elegance of the French capital.

24th - October 10th
2001: An Odyssey Into the Deep

The Midtown Hotel
An aquatic operatic retelling of the classic 1968 film casting HAL, the nearly sentient artificial intelligence, as an apocalyptic harbinger of human folly. Blending horror, live music, videography, physical storytelling, and water-based performance, 2001 transforms a classic American narrative and explores themes of morality and humanity in the new machine age.
