Country music legend Lorrie Morgan is celebrating her 40th anniversary as a Grand Ole Opry member and is taking her dozens of memorable songs and decades of memories on the road this year with a Ruby Anniversary Tour. She will be in the New Orleans area for one night only on Thursday, November 21, at Jefferson Performing Arts Center in Metairie.
Morgan is known for her lustrous vocal phrasing unforgettable storytelling. A Nashville native who is the daughter of Country Music Hall of Fame member George Morgan, she made her debut on the Grand Ole Opry stage at age 13, singing "Paper Roses." Lorrie Morgans is the first woman in the country music genre to begin her career with three consecutive Platinum albums. Toups Family Meal (TFM), Chef Isaac and Amanda Toups’ non-profit dedicated to providing food security for families in need, is excited to host its first annual Thanksgiving Meal Box Drive on Saturday, November 23rd. Delivering free Thanksgiving grocery meal boxes to 1,500 New Orleanians, Isaac, Amanda and their team of volunteers are working hard to ensure that no family in New Orleans goes hungry this Thanksgiving.
That Saturday, from 3PM-5PM, volunteer delivery drivers will set out in their vehicles to deliver box meals containing all the fixings for a traditional Thanksgiving meal: A whole chicken with just enough time to thaw for the big day, along with classic sides like collard greens, potatoes, mac n’ cheese, cornbread, and dessert. Additionally, in keeping with the theme of the holiday season, the boxes will include a milk chocolate advent calendar. Recognizing the urgency, over twenty New Orleans chefs and restaurant owners have united to create Cooks for Carolina. This dinner series will provide crucial support to independent restaurants and restaurant employees in Asheville and Buncombe County.
Each New Orleans restaurant will send 100% of the proceeds from its individually created event to the nonprofit Explore Asheville’s Always Asheville Fund, which is coordinating the distribution of grants to small, independent restaurants in Asheville and Buncombe County. Several North Carolina chefs will join the New Orleans restaurants to share what they are going through as they rebuild. Events begin on November 6th and continue through the holidays. The New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) closes out a year of programming marking 20 years of the museum’s Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden with the Visionaries Garden Party. Attendees will enjoy music, dancing, and libations under the stars surrounded by some of the most celebrated works of art of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.
